GOING OFF THE GRID

A phrase often heard of in these times.. we seem to be constantly ‘available’, replying, rushing, emailing, messaging, planning, creating, living.. but are we? Are the scales tipped too far in one direction?

How often do you ‘go bush’ get out in nature, breath (really breath…!) in the fresh air that nature provides? Sit with her and listen, truly listen, to the sounds that live in her home - the birds, the babbling brook, the roar of a waterfall.. the silence. We are so attached to our devices, barely putting down the phone for longer than half hour, our smartphones are pretty smart! They know just how to keep us engaged, drawn in to notifications, likes and comments, beeps and whistles.

Running my own business/es keeps me mentally busy and at times it is hard to switch off or put my phone down (it’s more like a hand held computer really!); then all of a sudden my SOUL speaks and says.. ‘it’s time to go bush! Time to get off the grid!’ and so I do. I literally feel it and know I need to be surrounded by natures sounds, not white noise or traffic or music.. time to reflect, to admire the beauty nature provides, to reconnect with myself. And you know what.. when I return, the world is still going around, and soon enough, I’m back in to the land of ‘busyness’ - taking a few days off for myself, was the best decision I made at that time.

I encourage you to put down your devices on a regular basis and even if you haven’t the time to go tramping or for big long day walks, just try a walk in the park, or along the beach or river and switch your phone off for an hour.. and listen for all the soft, soothing sounds that surround you. Breathe slowly and ground yourself (barefoot is even better!) .
