With thousands of free mediations available you are spoilt for choice on this easy to use App. Whether you need something to kick start your day, ease your anxiety or help you sleep, meditation is more than just sitting in ‘silence’ and trying to empty your head.. I’m sorry but that isn’t something that will ever completely happen, even for the seasoned yogi - I was once told, and this was probably the most valuable lesson I’ve ever learnt in my practice, that meditation is more about trying to slow down the thought process, whilst focusing on deep and controlled patterns of breathing and physical awareness - ultimately reaching a state of consciousness where you’re focused on your inner state. The ‘monkey mind’, as it’s called, is filled with scattered, erratic, random thoughts - bouncing around from one subject to the next at great speed (mine is highly over-active, so I find meditating challenging at the best of times!) - the practice of ‘NOT GRASPING OR ATTACHING’ on to thoughts, is key. Allow them to rise up or appear, acknowledge them.. then let them pass on by like a cloud in the sky.. it doesn’t stay in one place or retain its shape forever; it softens, it changes, it moves along. So find yourself a quiet place to be, to sit or to walk, choose a meditation track that jumps out at you and tune in! Give it a go and see if you can reconnect to your breath and slow those thoughts down. My favourite place to meditate? Sitting in my room facing the ocean, with the sun shining through the window filling my soul with beautiful natural, light energy.. pure bliss!
